JOB DESCRIPTION                                           

Job Title:   Dental Hygienist

Primary Purpose:  Under supervision, the dental hygienist provides a wide range of patient screening procedures and dental support services. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts patient screening procedures; such as assessment of oral health conditions, review of health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck inspection and dental charting.

  • Provides dental health education about tooth care and nutrition.

  • Takes impressions and/or dental radiographs of teeth

  • Removes plaque and calculus by scaling and polishing teeth.

  • Applies prophylactic/antibacterial materials, fissure sealants and topical fluorides to prevent tooth decay.

  • Counsels patients on the impact of oral health and good nutrition.

  • Performs office management activities and documentation.

  • Makes impressions of patients’ teeth for study casts

  • Works closely and under the instruction of dentists.

  • Conducts screening and monitor of dental procedures.

  • Uses a range of dental instruments.

  • Prolonged walking

  • Occasional bending, stooping, reaching and lifting.

  • Strong presentation and communication skills.

  • Project friendly and professional demeanor when dealing with staff.

  • Ability to work with a team and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines and standard acceptable practices.



  • Degree in Oral Health Science or dental therapy and dental hygiene.

  • Diploma in dental hygiene.



  • 1 year of dental office experience preferred.
