Dental Hygienist
Job Title: Dental Hygienist
Department: Dental Clinic
Reports To: Dental Manager
Status: Full-Time 1.0/40hrs
Primary Purpose: Under supervision, the dental hygienist provides a wide range of screening procedures and dental support services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Administers prophylactic treatment by scaling and polishing of teeth.

Documents area of existing restorations and notable areas of possible decay and disease for dentist’s review.

Oversight of instrument sterilization, and oversight of competency of peers running sterilization processes.

Takes x-rays to determine extent of any decay/disease.

Administers fluoride treatment as needed.

Updates medical history of patient, highlighting significant information for dentist’s review.

Instructs patients in oral hygiene techniques, answering specific questions and providing other relevant educational information.

Practices universal precautions and other sterilization/infection control procedures.

Maintenance of equipment.

Provides associated administrative support, including maintaining patient documentation, patient communication and other record-keeping.

Performs related duties as required.
Physical Requirements:

Able to stand for an extended period.

Good eyesight.

Able to sit for an extended period.

Occasional bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting.

Prescribed routines and standard acceptable practice
Education/Knowledge:

Degree in Dental Hygiene.

Certification in administration of local anesthesia.
Experience:

1-year of Dental office experience (preferred)
