Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist/Speech Therapist - 20200722

Department:   Rehabilitation

Status: Per Diem

Date:  September 15, 2020

Primary Purpose:  Responsible for providing quality speech-language services to patients.  Responsible for assessment, treatment planning and implementation, education and instruction, and documentation for the purpose of assisting achieve optimal function and quality   


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides quality patient care by responding through timely screening and evaluation of patients.

  • Establish, develop and update short and long term goals and treatment plan in accordance with patient, family and team objectives for patients. 

  • Implement therapy services as outlined in plan of care.

  • Monitor patient during all phases of treatment.

  • Confers with members of the interdisciplinary team both informally and formally at family and team conferences to coordinate the patient’s overall plan of care.

  • Participates in discharge planning including the development of restorative nursing and/or functional maintenance programs.

  • Complies with all hospital and departmental policies and procedures, safety program requirements, corporate compliance program standards of conduct, all applicable statues, rules and regulations. 

  • Maintains skills and knowledge through participation in educational programs, reading literature, attending workshops, and maintains affiliation with profession’s organization if applicable.

  • Performs other duties assigned. 


Physical Demands:

  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force to move objects, equipment and patients served.

  • Ability to regularly stand, walks, sits, stop, kneel, bend or crouch to assist patients.  

  • Ability to use hands to manipulate tools, equipment or controls; reach with hands and arms, balance and lift to assist in patient transfers.

  • Visual and hearing acuity sufficient to assess patients.



Mental Demands:

  • High levels of attention to detail, concentration and alertness needed.

  • Ability to solve distinct issues effectively.

  • Ability to handle emergency or crisis situations.


Communication Demands:

  • Ability to communicate verbally and written clearly and effectively.

  • Be approachable; relate well to others; be receptive to feedback and articulate clearly.

  • Actively listens to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.



  • Strong communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills.



  • Current unnumbered State of Hawaii license as a Speech Pathologist required.



  • One year of experience as a speech therapist preferred.
