JOB DESCRIPTION                                           

Job Title: Dental Receptionist

Department:   Dental Clinic

Status: Full-time

Date:  August 19, 2020


Primary Purpose:  Coordinate and organize appointments and administration to facilitate the efficient running of the dental office.   


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet and welcome patients into the practice.

  • Register new patients according to established protocols.

  • Schedule, reschedule and cancel appointments as needed.

  • Assist patients in the completion of all necessary forms and documentation.

  • Prepare and update patients’ records, charts and daily schedule for dental staff.

  • Verify and update patient information.

  • Verify dental insurance and patients’ benefits.

  • Inform patients of dental office procedures and policies. 

  • Enter all relevant patient information into data system.

  • Answer and manage incoming calls.

  • Check daily appointment schedule.

  • Confirm upcoming appointments and recalls according to office protocol.

  • Arrange patient charts for next day appointments. 

  • Organize and manage referrals to other medical specialists.

  • Dispatch lab work accordingly.

  • Verify, collect and receipt payments from patients at the time of treatment.

  • Maintain and manage patient records in compliance with privacy and security regulations.

  • Perform administrative duties, such as answering telephones, photocopying, filing, faxing, ordering and maintain office supplies.

  • Occasional bending, stooping, reaching and lifting.

  • Project friendly and professional demeanor when dealing with staff.

  • Ability to work with a team and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines and standard acceptable practices.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Dental terminology

  • Proficient in dental practice management software (Dentrix).

  • Exceptional organizational skills.



  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Certification of office administration, medical administration, or related field is advantageous.



  • 1 year of dental office experience preferred.
