Dr. Hughes is the Chief Medical Officer at Kahuku Medical Center and serves on the Board of Directors.
Dr. Hughes is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is an active member of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He earned a BA in Spanish from the University of Utah and attended medical school at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. His residency was completed at the Providence St. Vincent Internal Medicine program in Portland, OR.
Dr. Hughes has a special interest in sports medicine, adolescent, adult, and geriatric care. He is an enthusiastic supporter of the Kahuku Red Raiders and is the team physician for Kahuku Intermediate and High School Athletics. In addition, he is also a member of the KHIS Health Academy and is actively involved with the capstone students.
Dr. Hughes has been the physician for both the Ironman Honu and Ironman World Championship in Kona, HI. He also provides first aid for several other sporting and racing events, as well as community activities, on the North Shore.
In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Hughes is passionate about education and service. In his spare time, he enjoys teaching CPR classes and giving back to individuals in need.
