At Kahuku Medical Center, we are always looking for ways to better support our team and enhance the workplace experience. One request we’ve consistently heard—especially from our night staff—was for convenient access to healthier food and beverage options during off-hours.

In response, our Director of Support Services, Sena Fonoimoana took the lead in exploring solutions. Initially, traditional vending machines were considered; however, these options would have required a significant upfront investment—costing several thousand dollars—along with ongoing responsibility for inventory management and restocking.

After further research and discussion with our Elevate and Engage Committee, we were introduced to an innovative alternative: AI-powered smart vending machines. This vendor, already successfully operating at local locations such as Turtle Bay Golf and the Polynesian Cultural Center, offered a modern solution that aligned perfectly with our needs.

With no upfront cost to the hospital and no requirement for our staff to manage or refill inventory, this partnership allows us to provide a wide variety of healthier, high-quality options in a convenient and efficient way. It’s a solution that not only saves resources but also delivers greater value and flexibility for our employees.

This initiative represents a true win-win—enhancing employee satisfaction while supporting our commitment to wellness and innovation.
