Stroke Telemedicine at KMC

Stroke is a leading cause of disability and death throughout the United States. Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke, and every 4 minutes someone dies of a stroke. This condition is also known as a “brain attack,” which occurs when blood flow to an area of the brain is interrupted. This can happen as the result of a broken blood vessel or a blockage from a blood clot. When it comes to stroke treatment, time is of the essence.

An average of 2 million brain cells die every 60 seconds during a stroke. Every minute of time saved in seeking emergency help could make the difference between life and death. That’s why at Kahuku Medical Center, we are proud to provide the North Shore community with life-saving stroke telemedicine services.

Telestroke utilizes videoconferencing technology to connect KMC’s emergency doctors with experts at The Queen’s Health Systems. This allows for an immediate assessment while also saving invaluable time on transport. Telestroke programs have saved thousands of lives to date.
